A New Day

Hey everyone, it's me. I know you're all super excited that I have my own blog. This joyous day occurred because Ren and I decided The Bridal Shower blog should be designated for things about The Bridal Shower and music. As a result, here I am blogging and providing you with life lessons and things that matter. Soon I am going to put some of my blogs from the The Bridal Shower blog onto here in order to keep things nice and tidy. Until then you'll have to suffer through infrequent updates.

First order of business is to discuss some things that matter. Recently I was watching some music videos through that fancy music video providing Charter OnDemand business. While watching it I came across a live performance by a Psychobilly band called the Necromantix. I'm not ashamed to admit that a few years ago I enjoyed listening to said genre of music, resulting in my familiarity with the Necromantix. The video in question involved a song about gargoyles and this made me stop and think. I just had to question the life decision to be your mid- to late 40's (perhaps even 50's) and still singing songs about gargoyles. However, the questionable decisions of these grown men did not end there.

One then must recall that Psychobilly is an extremely demanding genre. Like many genre's of music that have some relation to the Punk Rock aesthetic there are certain physical requirements necessary to being considered truly "Psychobilly." The Psychobilly haircut for instance is more or less a bastardization of the mohawk and can be viewed in Exhibit A:
Following the very important haircut comes the stand-up bass. I'm not here to judge anyone on their musical instrument preferences, however, I am here judge you when Exhibit B is your stand-up bass:
The coffin bass just proves to me how totally serious these guys are about what they do.

Things like leather jackets, poodle skirts for the ladies, tight white shirts with cigarette boxes rolled up in the sleeve and the ubiquitous switchblade comb all are a staple in the Psychobilly way of life as well.

The next thing required from this increasingly ridiculous genre of music is the tight pants with rolled up pant legs. Now while this particular part of the ensemble is not ridiculous on its own coupled with the Psychobilly haircut and other parts, it becomes obvious that these people are under the impression that the 1950's never actually ended, but rather the era mutated into something that would make even the creators of Reefer Madness cringe.

Look, I'm not here to pass judgement upon anyone. I'm merely suggesting that maybe when you're rolling your cigarettes up in your sleeve and you're serious about that "rumble" in the parking lot, maybe you should take a step back and reevaluate some things.
